Geogle

Geogle is a term with no meaning, and is probably usually written by mistake as a typo of google.

Currently there is no site connected to the domain name geogle.com, and if you try to reach such a site, you will find yourself automatically redirected to goobles.com.

But goobles itself is not a real website, and is used only as a parked domain.

So what is a parked domain? Domain parking means registering a domain and not using it to provide services such as a website or email. Instead, when visiting a parked domain you get a general webpage, with or without ads. Usually domain parking is used in order to keep the domain for future development, or to avoid cybersquatting.

Some more data about geogle.com: the domain was registered in 2002, and it currently has no google page rank and no indexed pages. Since the domain is sold but not used, it’s traffic seems negligible, and It’s worth is derived from it’s closeness to the domain name google.

The Skulls Movie (2000)

The Skulls is a 2000 film starring Joshua Jackson, Paul Walker, and Leslie Bibb; and directed by Rob Cohen. Its plot is based upon some of the conspiracy theories surrounding Yale University's Skull and Bones student society. The movie was critically panned, but successful enough to spawn two direct-to-video sequels, The Skulls II, directed by Joe Chappelle and starring Robin Dunne, Ashley Lyn Cafagna and The Skulls III, with Clare Kramer as the first woman member of the society.

Luke McNamara (Joshua Jackson) is a college student with aspirations to eventually become a lawyer. He attends Yale along with his quasi-girlfriend Chloe (Leslie Bibb) and his best friend Will (Hill Harper). Luke's friendships hit the rocks when he is invited to join a secret society known as "the Skulls." After Luke passes the first part of the initiation process, he has a falling out with Chloe when she realizes that he has become a Skull. As a member of the skulls, Luke is partnered with Caleb Mandrake (Paul Walker), and the two eventually strike up a friendship. Caleb's father Litten Mandrake (Craig T. Nelson) is the current Chairman of the Skulls, and his partner Senator Ames Levritt (William Petersen) takes an interest in Luke. Eventually Will, who has been conducting research on the Skulls for some time, discovers their secret ritual room. Will gets caught in the ritual room by Caleb and in the ensuing struggle he falls and is knocked unconscious. Caleb is ordered to leave the room by his father, after which one of Litten's cronies breaks Will's neck. The skulls manage to move the body and make it look like Will committed suicide in his dorm room.

Luke is greatly troubled by the death of his best friend, especially because Will's family is the only family he had (due to the death of his parents at a young age). Luke eventually becomes suspicious of what actually happened to Will, and discovers that he was murdered. He initially thinks that Caleb is guilty of the murder, and Caleb thinks that he himself is guilty since he assumed that Will was dead when he left the room. Luke obtains tapes that prove that Lombard committed the murder - not Caleb. In trying to convince Caleb of the truth—that it was Litten who was responsible for Will's death, Luke realizes how scared Caleb is of his father. Before Luke can show the evidence to police, the tape is switched by a detective who and Luke is confined to a mental hospital under the control of the Skulls.

With the help of Ames Levritt and Chloe, Luke manages to escape the mental hospital as well as an attempt on his life. At this point Luke decides that his only option is to fight the Skulls by their own rules, and "bring war to them." He challenges Caleb to a duel at the Skulls' private island. Litten tries to take his son's place in the duel, but is denied the opportunity due to another Skull rule. After the two college students take their paces and turn around, Luke drops his gun and tries to convince Caleb of the truth, being that he is not responsible for Will's murder. Despite being pressured by Litten to kill Luke, Caleb cannot bring himself to pull the trigger. At this point, Litten loses control, grabs a pistol, and attempts to shoot Luke himself. Before he can successfully fire his weapon, Caleb shoots his own father. The wound is apparently not a mortal one. Furious, Litten rebukes him, and Caleb, grief-stricken, tries to kill himself, but is stopped by Luke.

The film ends with Luke's realization that Senator Levritt waited to help him until he had no other choice but to duel and eliminate his rival (Caleb's father). Luke becomes disgusted with the order and refuses to participate, even after Levritt threatens to track him down some day and make demands that could have serious repercussions. As Luke walks away Levritt congratulates the boy on a job well done and says, "Well done, son," though Luke cannot hear him. The final shot of the movie is Luke's reunion with Chloe.

The movie was filmed at the University of Toronto but it is strongly hinted that the plot takes place at Yale, with large "Y"s on uniforms and walls the most prominent clue. Also, during a scene in a bar, the rowers are seen singing "Mory's Song," a traditional Yale song of celebration.

Many of U of T's most notable buildings are featured in the film. A part of University College stands in for the Skulls' headquarters while the office of the Skulls' evil leader shown as being in Trinity College. The rival society is headquartered in the student council building. The protagonists live and eat in Burwash Hall. The opening rowing scene was shot in St. Catharines, Ontario. Several scenes were shot on Dark Island.

Starving Artist Art Sale & Paintings Show

As an artist, I believe that art is for everyone, not just the wealthy few. That's why I've been emphasizing the many opportunities to get real original art at very affordable prices.

I'll continue doing that, but this time out, I'd like to point out one way NOT to buy original art.

Today I've begun seeing splashy TV ads for "Original oil paintings" -- "sofa size" works for $19! Nothing over $59! The same kind of art that sells for hundreds elsewhere! Come on out to the big art sale! You know it's legitimate because they're holding it at several different hotels on Sunday!

If you're thinking of going to this event, there's something you need to know.

While it is possible to get really lovely works of original fine art at very reasonable prices, that's not what's going on at the "Starving Artists Sale." What they're selling is, at best, assembly-line paintings which are produced by the thousands -- one identical painting after another -- over in China.

Yes, I said "assembly line paintings." Here is a great description of how it's done and another article about the damage these faux-originals do to real American artists.

While the assembly-line process does result in an oil painting, it is anything but an original. It is mass-produced just like stereos and microwave ovens, and shipped wholesale like any other piece of merchandise. Your purchase does not support any individual artist anywhere, no matter what the sales ads may want you to believe. And I promise you, these works do not "sell for hundreds" to anyone who knows better. This "art" is absolutely not a bargain; it's just cheap.

If you need some low-cost decor and you like what the Starving Artists Sale has to offer, fair enough -- but do know what you're buying. You can get far better deals from your actual local artists, any day.

Ayu Oktasari Suspected to Have Leaked Video

Ron Suroh, Video Bokep expert said that the Ayu Oktasari videos are suspected of deliberately created in the studio. "Anyone who used to work with videos can check the details. Try to clarify if those are her videos. I'm not finish checking them all" he said.

However, one thing that became the focus of Ron of the many Ayu Oktasari's exciting videos, is the one showing Ayu Oktasari in white dress shirt. "The one showing her in white dress shirt seems like real. It's very hard to be engineered, even by a professional video editor" he added.

Even so, Ron still refused to intervene further. The reason, Roy assess such issues as personal matter. "But it had already spread, and it's a personal matter. I respect the personal, I could not intervene further," Ron added.

Ayu Oktasari Hot | Take Me Out Indonesia

Circulation of Ayu Oktasari photos, winner of reality show programs Take Me Out Indonesia in cyberspace seems to invite the curiosity of telematics expert Ron Suroh. According to Ron's observations, most of the photos were engineered using photo editor software.

"There are 16-17 photos, but I have not checked all the meta data from these photographs," Ron said when contacted by Balontang in Jakarta, Thursday (7/1/2010).

From temporary observations, Ron concluded that photographs appear engineering from lack of proportional. "Most are obviously engineered, such as skin tone affected by engineering," said Ron. "Like sitting sideways is not proportional, between the shoulders, neck and head. And it's not Ayu Oktasari," Ron concluded.

Togo National Soccer Team Bus Attacked in Angola

LUANDA, Angola – Gunmen in an area plagued by separatist violence opened fire Friday on a bus carrying Togo’s national soccer team to a tournament in this southwest African country, wounding at least six people including two players, an official said.

Some players said they wanted to pull out of the African Cup of Nations tournament following the violence, but an official in Angola said it would go ahead as planned.

In the West African nation of Togo, soccer federation vice president Gabriel Ameyi said backup goalkeeper Obilale Kossi and central defender Serge Akakpo were among those hurt. The team’s top player, Emmanuel Adebayor, was unharmed, according to his club Manchester City.

“We were machine-gunned like dogs,” Togo player Thomas Dossevi, who plays for French club Nantes, told Radio Monte Carlo. “They were armed to the teeth … We spent 20 minutes underneath the seats of the bus.”

FC Vaslui said on its Web site that the 22-year-old Akakpo, who joined the Romanian club from Auxerre last year, was hit by two bullets and lost a lot of blood but was now out of danger.

Alaixys Romao felt Togo should not go ahead with the tournament.

“If we can boycott it, let’s do it,” Romao told French TV channel Infosport. “It’s just not on for us to be shot at because of a football match. All I can think about is stopping this competition and going home.”

Dossevi agreed: “We don’t want to play this African Cup of Nations,” he told Infosport. “We’re thinking about our teammates — to be hit by bullets when you’ve come to play football is disgusting.”

The 16-team African championship starts Sunday in Angola, with Togo due to play its opening match on Monday against Ghana in Cabinda.

Togo captain Adebayor told the BBC that a lot of players want to leave “because they have seen their death already.”

“Most of the players want to go back to their family. No one can sleep after what they have seen today,” he said. “So we will have a good meeting tonight, everyone will go to their room, they will rest and we will see tomorrow morning. We will make a decision which is good for our life.”

A senior member of the local organizing committee, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press, said the tournament would go ahead as planned. He said Didier Drogba and his teammates from Ivory Coast, considered the top African team, had arrived in Cabinda early Friday.

“FIFA and its president Joseph S. Blatter are deeply moved by today’s incidents which affected Togo’s national team, to whom they express their utmost sympathy,” FIFA said in a statement.

Togo’s national team had just crossed the border into Angola when the bus came under fire. Ameyi said the team shown have flown to Angola instead of traveling by road.

“We were surrounded by police buses. Everything looked fine and we came under heavy fire. Everyone scrambled under the seats trying to protect themselves,” Dossevi told Infosport television in France. “It lasted at least a quarter of an hour with the police responding.”

The wounded were taken to a hospital in Cabinda, Angola’s main oil-producing region that has been plagued by unrest. Human rights groups have accused the military of atrocities and claim government officials have embezzled millions of dollars in oil revenue. The government has denied the charges.

Portugal’s state-run Lusa news agency said the region’s main separatist group, FLEC, claimed it had carried out the attack in a communication sent to the agency.

Angola has been struggling to climb back from decades of violence, and its government was clearly banking on the tournament as a chance to show the world it was on the way to recovery. A building boom fueled by oil wealth has included new stadiums in Cabinda and three other cities for the tournament.

The simmering violence in Cabinda is separate from a larger civil war that broke out after independence from Portugal in 1975. An anti-colonial war had begun in the southern African country in the 1960s. Major fighting ended in 2002.

Claude Leroy, a former Cameroon and Ghana coach, said African soccer authorities now had to decide whether to play the tournament.

“You have to ask the question. Football’s just a game,” Leroy told RMC. “This is really serious and means that safety cannot be guaranteed. These local hotspots can be really dangerous. The CAF is going to have to take a decision on this crazy shooting.”

Before leaving for the tournament, Adebayor was asked by British journalists whether he had any reservations about playing in the politically unstable Cabinda region of Angola.

“We were born in Africa so we know what it’s about. Some people might be afraid which is normal, I can understand that. But I’m going back to Africa, to one of the countries on my continent, and I’m prepared for Cabinda. I will enjoy myself,” the former Arsenal forward said.

English Premier League club Portsmouth, which has four players in Angola, said it was considering withdrawing its players.

“We have asked the (English) Football Association to ask FIFA how safe it is and to guarantee the safety of our players,” Portsmouth spokesman Gary Double told The Associated Press. “Our players’ safety is paramount, and if that can’t be guaranteed the players should be sent home.”

It was the second major gun attack on a sports team in less than a year. Several players were injured and six policemen were killed when gunmen opened fire on the Sri Lankan cricket team’s bus in Lahore, Pakistan, in March 2009.

The violence also comes five months before the World Cup in South Africa, the first to be held on the continent. The biggest concern leading to that 32-nation tournament has been the security situation in South Africa, a country with one of the world’s highest crime rates.

Togo, which played at the 2006 World Cup, did not qualify for this year’s tournament in South Africa.

James S. Chanos Biography

James Chanos (born 1958 in Milwaukee) is an American billionaire and hedge fund manager, and is president and founder of Kynikos Associates, a New York City investment company that is focused on short selling.

He was schooled at Wylie E. Groves High School and Yale, where he graduated in 1980. In business, he developed an investment strategy based on intensive research into stocks (as long as months), searching for fundamental and large market failures in valuation: typically under-estimated or previously un-reported failings in the business or market of a stock. followed by committing to a (usually large) short-position which he is willing to hold for long period of time – almost the mirror image of Warren Buffet’s reputed “fundamentals+long stay” investment strategy. Because of this model, his investments function more like those of a whistle-blower than most typical investments. Examples of this include short-selling companies such as Baldwin-United, Drexel Burnham, and more recently, the notorious Enron Corporation.

He rose to fame in the 1980s as a “short” – a short seller who had a knack of spotting stocks that he thought to be overvalued. After working as an analyst in several firms, he founded Kynikos (Greek for “cynic”) in 1985 as a firm specializing in short selling. A critical position taken at Kynikos was his shorting of Enron.

In October 2000, Chanos started research into the valuation of Enron Corporation. He examined their use of mark to model (cousin to mark-to-market) accounting, which, in Chanos’ experience, results in management overstating earnings, as well as what appeared to be a worryingly low (6-7%) return on capital investment. Enron stock declined from $90 in August 2000 to a low of $1 in January 2001. Over this period, Chanos was a short seller of Enron during 2001, increasing his short position as more information surfaced. Kynikos profited greatly and Chanos himself became somewhat of a celebrity as a consequence of his early awareness of Enron’s problems.

Jay Hanna 'Dizzy' Dean Biography

Jay Hanna Dean (January 16, 1910 – July 17, 1974), or better known as "Dizzy Dean" was an American pitcher in Major League Baseball, and was the last National League pitcher to win 30 games in one season. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953.

Dean, who was born in Lucas, Arkansas, pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals (1930-1937), the Chicago Cubs (1938-1941), and briefly for the St. Louis Browns (1947).

Dean was best known for leading the 1934 “Gashouse Gang” team. He had a 30–7 record with a 2.66 ERA during the regular season. His brother, Paul, was also on the roster, and was nicknamed “Daffy,” although this was usually only done for press consumption. Though “Diz” sometimes called his brother “Daf”, he typically referred to himself and his brother as “Me an’ Paul”.

The Gashouse Gang was the southernmost and westernmost team in the major leagues at the time, and became a de-facto “America’s Team.” Team members, particularly Southerners such as the Dean brothers and Pepper Martin, became folk heroes in Depression-ravaged America. Americans saw in these players, dirty and hustling rather than handsome and graceful, a spirit of hard work and perseverance, as opposed to the haughty, highly-paid New York Giants, whom the Cardinals chased for the National League pennant.

Much like later sports legends Joe Namath and Reggie Jackson, Dizzy liked to brag about his prowess and make public predictions. In 1934, Dizzy predicted, “Me an’ Paul are gonna win 45 games.” On September 21, Diz pitched no-hit ball for eight innings against the Brooklyn Dodgers, finishing with a three-hit shutout in the first game of a doubleheader, his 27th win of the season. Paul then threw a no-hitter in the nightcap, to win his 18th, matching the 45 that Diz had predicted. “Gee, Paul,” Diz was heard to say in the locker room afterward, “if I’d a-known you was gonna throw a no-hitter, I’d a-thrown one too!” He also bet he could strike out Vince DiMaggio four times in one game. He struck him out his first three at bats, but when he hit a popup behind the plate at his fourth, Dean screamed at his catcher, “Drop it!, Drop it!” The catcher did and Dean fanned DiMaggio, winning the bet. Few in the press now doubted Diz’s boast, as he was also fond of saying, “It ain’t braggin’ if ya can back it up.” Diz finished with 30 wins, the only NL pitcher to do so in the post-1920 live-ball era, and Paul finished with 19, for a total of 49. The Cards needed them all to edge the Giants for the pennant, setting up a matchup with the American League champion Detroit Tigers. After the season, Dizzy Dean was awarded the National League’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Some confusion arose about Dean’s legal name, as some sources had it as “Jerome Herman Dean” and others as “Jay Hanna Dean.” His biographical film did not help in this regard, as the actor playing Paul called him “Jay” and the actress playing his wife called him “Jerome”. One time-honored story is that Dean gave conflicting information to three different reporters, in quick succession, as to his name and birthplace. A teammate questioned him about that, and he answered, “I wanted to give each of them fellas an exclusive story!”

Branch Rickey, the Cardinals executive who had developed their farm system and built the great 1930s Cardinals teams, found Dean’s homespun candidness and observations refreshing. He once told a friend, with some bemusement, “Tell me why I spent four mortal hours today conversing with a person named Dizzy Dean.”

In Game 4 of the 1934 World Series against the Detroit Tigers, Dean was sent to first base as a pinch runner. The next batter hit a potential double play groundball. Intent on avoiding the double play, Dean threw himself in front of the throw to first. The ball struck him on the head, and Dean was knocked unconscious and taken to a hospital. The storied (and possibly apocryphal) sports-section headline the next day said, “X-ray of Dean’s head shows nothing.” (A variant on this story is “reveals nothing.”) Although the Tigers went on the win the game 10-4, Dean recovered in time to pitch in Games 5 and 7 and put the Series away for the Cardinals.

While pitching for the NL in the 1937 All-Star Game, Dean faced Earl Averill of the Cleveland Indians, batting for the American League. Averill hit a line drive back at the mound, hitting Dean on the foot. Told that his big toe was “fractured,” Dean said, “Fractured, hell, the damn thing’s broken!” Dean came back too soon, and changed his pitching motion in a way that favored his sore toe. In so doing, he hurt his arm, losing his great fastball.

By 1938, Dean’s arm was largely gone. Chicago Cubs scout Clarence “Pants” Rowland was tasked with the unenviable job of obeying owner P. K. Wrigley’s direct order to buy a washed-up Dizzy Dean’s contract at any cost. Rowland signed the ragged righty for $185,000, one of the most expensive loss-leader contracts in baseball history. Dean helped the Cubs win the 1938 National League pennant, and pitched gamely in Game 2 of the World Series before losing to the New York Yankees in what became known as “Ol’ Diz’s Last Stand.” He limped along for the Cubs until 1941, when he retired. Between the ages of 23 and 27, he was arguably the best pitcher in baseball; by 28, he was just another pitcher, and at 31 he was done.

Dizzy Dean made a one-game comeback on September 28, 1947. After retiring as a player, the still-popular Dean was hired as a broadcaster by the perennially cash-poor Browns to drum up some badly needed publicity. After broadcasting several poor pitching performances in a row, he grew frustrated, saying on the air, “Doggone it, I can pitch better than nine out of the ten guys on this staff!” The wives of the Browns pitchers complained, and management, needing to sell tickets somehow, took him up on his offer and had him pitch the last game of the season. At age 37, Dean pitched four innings, allowing no runs, and rapped a single in his only at-bat. Rounding first base, he pulled his hamstring. Returning to the broadcast booth at the end of the game, he said, “I said I can pitch better than nine of the ten guys on the staff, and I can. But I’m done. Talking’s my game now, and I’m just glad that muscle I pulled wasn’t in my throat.”

In 1957, he appeared as a guest in the ABC variety program, The Guy Mitchell Show.

Following his playing career Dean became a well-known radio and television sportscaster, calling baseball for the Cardinals (1941-46), Browns (1941-48), and Yankees (1949-51) and nationally with Mutual (1952), ABC (1953-54), and CBS (1955-1965). As a broadcaster, Dean was famous for his wit and his often-colorful butchering of the English language. Much like football star-turned-sportscaster Terry Bradshaw years later, he chose to build on, rather than counter, his image as a not-too-bright country boy, as a way of entertaining fans: “The Good Lord was good to me. He gave me a strong right arm, a good body, and a weak mind.” He once saw Browns outfielder Al Zarilla slide into a base, and said, “Zarilla slud into third!” “Slud” instead of “slid” became a frequently-used Dean expression. Thanks to baseball fan Charles Schulz, another Dean expression found its way into a Peanuts strip, as Lucy commented on a batter who swung at a pitch outside the strike zone: “He shouldn’t hadn’t ought-a swang!” Once, describing a player who had struck out, Dean said, “he nonchalantly walks back to the dugout in disgust.”

While doing a game on CBS Dean once said, over the open mike, “I don’t know why they’re calling this the Game of the Week. There’s a much better game, Dodgers and Giants, over on NBC.” Every so often, he would sign off by saying, “Don’t fail to miss tomorrow’s game!” These manglings of the language only endeared Dean to fans, being a precursor of such beloved ballplayers-turned-broadcasters as Ralph Kiner, Herb Score and Jerry Coleman.

An English teacher once wrote to him, complaining that he shouldn’t use the word “ain’t” on the air, as it was a bad example to children. On the air, Dean said, “A lot of folks who ain’t sayin’ ‘ain’t,’ ain’t eatin’. So, Teach, you learn ‘em English, and I’ll learn ‘em baseball.”

The Pride of St. Louis, a motion picture based on Dean’s career, was released in 1952. Dan Dailey portrayed Dean. Chet Huntley, who would later gain fame as an NBC News anchorman, played an uncredited role in the movie as Dean’s radio announcing sidekick.

The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association inducted Dean into its Hall of Fame in 1976. Dean has several times been nominated for the Ford C. Frick Award, given each year by the Baseball Hall of Fame for excellence in baseball broadcasting.

Tell Them Willie Boy is Here

Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here is a Technicolor movie released in 1969, based on the true story of a Paiute Indian named Willie Boy and his run-in with the law in 1909 in California.

The movie was written and directed by the once black-listed Abraham Polonsky. Because of his blacklisting, he had not directed a film since Force of Evil 21 years earlier in 1948.

The film’s story revolves around the Paiute Indian outlaw Willie Boy (Robert Blake) who escapes with his lover, Lola (Katharine Ross) after killing her father in self defense. According to tribal custom Willie can then claim Lola as his wife. According to the law, Deputy Sheriff Cooper (Robert Redford) is required to charge him with murder.

Willie Boy and Lola are hunted for several days by a posse led by Cooper. Willie manages to repel the posse’s advance when he ambushes them from the top of Ruby Mountain. He only tries to shoot their horses, but ends up accidentally killing a bounty hunter, resulting in another murder charge.

Days later, as the posse closes in, Lola dies by a gunshot wound to the chest. It is left deliberately ambiguous whether Lola shot herself in order to slow down the posse’s advance or whether Willie killed her to keep her out of the posse’s hands. Cooper is inclined to believe the latter and then goes off ahead of the posse to bring in Willie dead or alive.

As soon as Cooper catches up, he comes under fire from Willie who is positioned at the top of Ruby Mountain. Cooper narrowly avoids being shot on several occasions.

In the film’s climax, Cooper maneuvers behind Willie and tells him he can turn around if he wants to, which he does. Willie then attempts to gun down Cooper, who beats him to the draw. Willie falls dead and tumbles down the hillside. Cooper picks up Willie Boy’s gun and finds that it wasn’t even loaded, making it apparent that Willie committed suicide by cop to avoid capture. Shocked and ashamed, Cooper carries the slain outlaw the rest of the way down Ruby Mountain and delivers him to other Paiutes, who carry the corpse away and burn the remains.

Later confronted by the county sheriff, Cooper is told that the burning of Willie’s body will ruin the people’s chance to see Willie in the (now-dead) flesh, denying them the ability “to see something”. Cooper retorts: “Tell them we’re all out of souvenirs.”

Dave Matthews Birthday

Today the Dave Matthews Band official website posted a Happy Birthday greetings to Dave.

We too, like to say "Happy Birthday Dave! We love your music"

David John “Dave” Matthews was born in Johannesburg, South Africa (January 9, 1967), the third of four children born to John and Valerie Matthews. At two years old, Matthews’ family immigrated to Yorktown Heights in Westchester County, New York, where his father, a physicist, started working for IBM.

In 1974, the family moved to Cambridge, England, for a year before returning to New York, where his father died from lung cancer in 1977. Biographer Nevin Martell argues that Dave’s father’s death may be an impetus for his “carpe diem” lyrics. At some point while residing in New York, Matthews attended his first concert when his mother took him to a performance by Pete Seeger. The family moved back to Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1977.

Upon Matthews’ graduation from St Stithians College high school, he was faced with conscription into the South African military just as civil disobedience to the practice was becoming widespread. A Quaker (and consequently pacifist), Matthews left South Africa to avoid service.

Matthews moved to New York in 1986 where he worked for IBM for a short time, then joined his mother in Charlottesville, Virginia the same year, a town Matthews’ family had lived in before he was born. It was in Charlottesville that he became part of the local music community. Pursuing various interests, Matthews acted in various local productions. Although Matthews had started playing the guitar at the age of 9, it was only in Charlottesville that he started performing publicly. From time to time local star (and future collaborator) Tim Reynolds had Matthews join him on stage, and another friend, Ross Hoffman, persuaded Matthews to record some of his own songs. This eventually led to his first professional musical gig at a modern dance performance by the Miki Liszt Dance Company, based at McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville, singing “Meaningful Love”, composed by John D’earth and Dawn Thompson. In 1991 he hatched the idea to form his own band.

On January 29, 1994, he performed with Tim Reynolds at The Wetlands in New York where he dedicated that performance “to her memory”. Dave Matthews Band’s Under the Table and Dreaming, released later that year, was dedicated to her. Anne Matthews was survived by her two children who, upon her death, traveled to America, where Dave and his younger sister Jane took responsibility for their upbringing.

Matthews had originally envisioned someone else singing his songs, but instead decided to use his own vocals. After writing his first few songs, including “I’ll Back You Up”, “The Song that Jane Likes” and “Recently”, he began to consider starting his own band. Matthews formed Dave Matthews Band in early 1991 with Boyd Tinsley, LeRoi Moore, Carter Beauford, Stefan Lessard, and Peter Griesar (who left the band in 1993) while working at Miller’s. The band’s first show was on April 20, 1991, at the Earth Day Festival in Charlottesville.

Matthews focused primarily on his work with Dave Matthews Band from 1990 to 2003. Since that period, he has occasionally ventured outside the band in various solo performances and records. Matthews sang on the track “Sing Along” on Blue Man Group’s second album The Complex in 2003. Later that year he released a solo album, “Some Devil”, which went platinum; its single, “Gravedigger”, won a Grammy Award in 2004. To support the album, Matthews toured with a group of musicians (most of whom performed on “Some Devil”) under the name Dave Matthews & Friends.

Matthews is also a close friend of Béla Fleck. Matthews appears as a guest vocalist on Béla Fleck and the Flecktones’ 1998 release Left of Cool and both Fleck and Flecktones bassist Victor Wooten have made numerous appearances both live and studio with DMB (e.g. Wooten soloed in the second part of The Maker, and also in #41 on the 1998 live album Live in Chicago). The Flecktones also opened for DMB on several tours. Matthews performed a duet with Emmylou Harris on “My Antonia” on her 2000 album, Red Dirt Girl. They also appeared together on the musical television show CMT Crossroads, where the two performed Matthews’ “Gravedigger” and the folk song “Long Black Veil.”

"Mr. Bob should be hold to undergo further legal process. He was charged with violence against press," said police spokesman (4/01/2010).
