The result of Ujian Nasional (UN) at SMP grade in Jawa Timur shows 35.567 students failed in the first and second UN. Generally, the graduation level in Jatim only 93,34%.The main factor in this failure is English, Science, and Math. From the statistic in Jatim Education Bureau, 30.915 students failed in English, 28.161 in Math, 26.578 in Science, and the last 15.725 in Indonesian. The failed students will have second UN in May 17-20 2010.
The low UN results fom Open SMP students was the main cause of the high failure percentage. "From 288 Open SMP in Jatim, 27 SMP has 0% of graduation. That's why a reorganization is needed". said Suwanto, head of Education Bureau.
This statistic has increasing the need of higher attention from government in the education sector. The poor economic condition forced students at SMP age to help their parents by working. Therefore, their education is abandoned.
